I met a few members of "The Cliveden Set" on a visit to Cliveden on Sunday May 3rd 1934.

The panoramic view from the terrace. |
Lord Astor introduced himself with a welcoming handshake, and enquired as to the make of my camera? Was it the latest Kodak?
He was showing some of his weekend guests around the ground. They included Eleanor Roosevelt, Times Editor, Geoffrey Dawson, and authoress E M Delafield.

Some further guests just arriving to lunch, looking very glamorous with umbrellas just in case.

Managed to catch up again with Lord Astor, and delighted that he and his guests were happy to pose for a group photo.

ReplyDeleteMoving in high circles john. Have you been invited to any of their racy parties ????
ReplyDeleteJohn wasn't with me that day Phil. I went with the Hampshire Photography Group, but going back tomorrow on my own hoping for a few more portrait opportunities.
